 Grounding Shielded Cable

The connector shown below is a heat shrink solder sleeve with a grounding wire pre-inserted. It is used to ground shielded cable and coax.

#2: Carefully strip out a section of the insulation. Avoid cutting the braided shield sleeve.

#3: Slip the solder seal over the stripped section. Position the solder ring over the bare shield.

#4: Apply heat. Concentrate the heat on the solder ring in the center. Rotate the wire or move your heat gun to the opposite side for uniform heating.

#5: Note: In the photo on the left you can see that the solder has melted, the shrink tube has shrunk. In addition to providing an excellent ground there is also the added bonus of sealing the connection against moisture and corrosion.

Note About Heat Sources:

Electric heat guns are the best. A butane or propane pencil flame can also be used but use caution to avoid burning the insulation.
